“We have been mostly getting calls around vaccine hesitancy and information around vaccination drives,” said Suchita Tripathi, Senior Operations Manager, Indian Society of Healthcare Professionals (ISHP). Suchita is also in-charge of the day to day running of SANJEEVANI, a Covicall Centre in Lucknow started by Oxfam India in collaboration with ISHP.

“There are some queries related to COVID-19 symptoms as well,” she adds. Between 1 July and 26 August the centre received 643 calls. Maximum calls were in Hindi, followed by Marathi.

The centre inaugurated on 27 June 2021 was set up by Oxfam India as part of its ongoing COVID-19 response—Mission Sanjeevani.

This Covicall Centre SANJEEVANI will respond to all COVID and Non-COVID queries. The number to remember is 1800-102-6869.

During the second wave of COVID-19, people everywhere were desperately looking for oxygen cylinders, ICU beds, and medicines. Many people lost their lives because they were unable to get oxygen or beds or medicines on time.  Many simply wanted to consult a doctor or get an ambulance. While a lot of people who were on social media or WhatsApp groups managed to source information and help online but for many this was impossible. They ended up running pillar to post in search of basic healthcare. The second wave saw a complete collapse of the healthcare system but the lack of information made it worse.

Oxfam India has been on the ground since the first lockdown was announced in March 2020. In the first phase we responded with food, safety kits, PPE kits and cash. Our long term response of livelihood trainings with women SHGs was just picking up when the second wave hit us. We immediately changed tack to strengthening public healthcare system.

We were also cognisant of the fact that the lacunae of information and awareness still needed to be filled. It is in this light that the Covicall Centre was planned. The SANJEEVANI Covicall Centre has been set up in technical collaboration with Indian Society of Healthcare Professionals (ISHP). The tele-callers are based out of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. People can reach out on this number for all their COVID and Non-COVID related queries.

The toll-free number is 1800-102-6869 for all your COVID and Non-COVID related medical queries. At the moment the callers are available between 10 am-6pm, and our staff at the Centre will answer your queries in English, Hindi, Bengali, Odiya, Marathi and Kannada.

With the impending third wave, this Covicall Centre is definitely going to be a lifeline.

Do remember the number 1800-102-6869.
