Nepal hit by another big earthquake, casualties reported

Nepal has been hit by a 7.3 magnitude earthquake, just two weeks after the Himalayan nation was devastated by one of the biggest earthquakes to hit the country in over 80 years.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre of Tuesday's earthquake was 68 kms west of the town of Namche Bazar, close to Mount Everest.

Reports of casualties and buildings collapsing are coming in from various parts of the country. The current death toll is four, but it is expected to rise.

Tremors from this quake were felt in the eastern part of India and as far as Delhi. People rushed out of their offices in the Capital moments after the tremors were felt.

“The Oxfam team from India working in Gorkha district says buildings damaged in the April 25th earthquake have collapsed. The relief work has been affected by these fresh tremors,” said Zubin Zaman, Deputy Director, Humanitarian and Disaster Risk Reduction, Oxfam India.

Oxfam teams  are on the ground in Nepal and are delivering clean water and hygiene equipment to thousands of people following the earthquake of April 25.

Our teams are rapidly assessing further need. We urgently need your help now to save lives.
