Oxfam India and Chhattisgarh Police jointly released awareness posters

Raipur, July 26: In order to create awareness among people about rights of women and children regarding crime related issues Oxfam India in association with Chhattisgarh Police developed four sets of posters, in pictorial form and in easy language, informed officials of the organization, elaborating that the posters were today unveiled in the state capital.

As per information received, these posters will be displayed in all the police stations and outposts across the state. The posters will help common citizens, especially children, women to claim their rights and it will also help the police personnel to gain awareness and abide the comparatively recent acts such as Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) and Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA). These four posters are things to consider while filing FIR, rights during interrogation, arrest and searching, rights of Children and Role of Police under POCSO and role of Police under PWDVA.

The posters were unveiled by ADG CID Rajeev Shrivastava, in the presence of IG Raipur Pradeep Gupta, OSD CID P.N. Tiwari, SP Raipur Sanjeev Shukla, Civil Society Representative Sipra Devi and Oxfam India’s Regional Manager Anand Shukla.

While unveiling the posters, ADG, CID Shri Shrivastava said that it is common phenomenon that the negative elements also spread in the society. Our effort is to how the police with the help of the general people curtail down this negative elements and can reduce crimes. There are various means of creating awareness some are modern like social media etc. however the traditional means like posters, wall writing still holds great importance. Today’s event will prove to be a milestone in this direction. IG, Raipur Shri Gupta said that these posters will play an important role in creating awareness in general people. This will help people in taking recourse of these legal procedures. This will also help to create a cautious approach in police stations and chowkies.

While sharing her experience of working with Police Department, Civil Society Representative Ms. Sipra Devi said that the collaboration of civil society and Police Department across the state till village level will be a welcoming step to ensure the dignity of life to common people and it will have long-term effects. Welcoming the guests Anand Shukla, Regional Manager at Oxfam India,Chhattisgarh in his welcome address referred to the various initiatives between civil society and police department at international level and that these initiatives should be spread in Chhattisgarh to build confidence and trust.

Anu Verma, Programme Officer at Oxfam India, Chhattisgarh shared about one and a half years of a journey of preparation, revisions, approvals of these posters and the support and guidance received from the police department. She also said that this a great occasion when rural women from the project areas are sitting in front of the senior officials of the police department. This will definitely work on improving the confidence.

Proposing the vote of thanks, Prakash Gardia said that police department has an important role to play in the journey from Rights to Dignity. He said that today’s programme is a part of the larger process of ending violence against women and girls.
