Oxfam is responding to the floods in Tamil Nadu. Here’s an update on what we’ve been doing to help those affected.

  • Oxfam is stationed in Cuddalore where we are working with our partner BLESS. 750 households in Cuddalore and 300 households in Kanchipuram districts have received hygiene as well as dry food ration kits.
  • Food distribution has also begun in Bhuvangiri, one of the worst affected blocks.
  • In Chennai, Oxfam have been able to complete debris removal from Koyambude one of the worst affected slums in the city. Chlorine tablets have been distributed across three slums – Annai Satya Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and Shiva Shakti Nagar to ensure access to safe drinking water.
  • Essential relief materials such as tarpaulin and groundsheets for shelter, latrine slabs as well hygiene kits are being distributed in Chennai, its suburbs and adjoining areas. Emergency shelter kits have been given to 245 households in Cuddalore district.
  • Oxfam has been coordinating with UNICEF and its partners in meetings to decide on the further course of action and to prioritise the work that needs to be done so that the most urgent needs are met immediately.
  • 2000 tarpaulins, 2000 groundsheets and 2000 buckets have reached Oxfam’s warehouse at Cuddalore from Odisha.Oxfam will be providing support to 8,000 flood-affected families, nearly 48,000 people in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The people in Chennai and Tamil Nadu need your help.
